Heal is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. As the seminal spell of the franchise, Heal is almost always the first spell learnt by the Hero/Heroine in their adventure. It is the first in a series that includes Midheal, Moreheal, Multiheal, Fullheal, and Omniheal.
Description
As its name suggests, it functions to restore the HP of the character that is used on. This spell is commonly learnt by Priests and even most certain monsters such as Healslimes who possesses it.
Appearances
Dragon Quest
Making its debut alongside the series, it is learned by the Hero at Level 3, restoring 10~17 HP in the original version, and 25~30 in the remakes. It costs 4 MP to cast in the original and 3 MP to cast in the remakes, and is used by Drackymas, Skeleton scrappers, Raving lunaticks, Skeleton soldiers, and Hocus chimaeras, though only in the remakes for the birds. In addition, it is also cast by Healslimes, Bags o' Laughs, and Treefaces in the HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest II
The Prince of Cannock knows the spell upon being recruited and restores 23~42 HP in the original, and 25~30 in the remakes. Both versions cost 3 MP, and is also used by Healslimes, Hawk men, Gremlins, and Orc chieftains. In the HD-2D Remake, it is already learned by Peronel and Matilda when they join the Scions of Erdrick, and is used by Headhunters, Cadabra, and Twisted Sister, as well as Skeleton Scrappers, Bags o' Laughs, Skeleton Soldiers, Mushroom Mages, Drackymas, and Treefaces once again.
Dragon Quest III
Heal is automatically learnt by one who is a Priest from the beginning, but those who become a Priest or Sage in the Alltrades Abbey need to advance to Level 2 to learn it. In the mobile port onwards, this is changed so that anyone who becomes a Priest or Sage automatically knows the spell at level 1. In addition, it is also learned by Erdrick at level 4, though he can learn it much sooner for use in battle in the NES version if a glitch is exploited in Patty's Party Planning Place where too many companions are registered, though it will prevent him from being able to learn it for use on the world map.
The spell itself restores at least 30 HP and costs 3 MP to cast once again, while also causing damage to Zoma after the Sphere of Light is used on him. It is also used by Bags o' laughs and Mushroom mages, as well as Healslimes once again, in addition to Kyllas in the game's HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest IV
The basic Heal spell is known by Kiryl and Meena at level 1, with Healie and Laurel already knowing the spell. It is also learned by the Hero in the remakes at levels 2 to 4, depending on thier wisdom.

It costs 3 MP to use and is used by Slime knights, Dwight, and the Winter Queen, as well as Drackymas, Healslimes, and Hocus Chimaeras once again, with Epipanies and Conkuisitors also casting it in the remakes.
