Fuddle is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.
Description
Confuses enemies which are trapped in an altered state of mind, viewing enemies as friend, vice-versa, and even causing them to strike themselves when they aren't staring into empty space.
Appearances
Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake
Only appearing in the game's HD-2D Remake, it is used by Goodybags, Shadows, Lump Mages, Lump Shamen, and Great Trolls once again, costing 6 MP to cast once again.
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake
Only appearing the game's HD-2D Remake, it is learned by Peronel at level 24. It costs 6 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Dragonflies and Succubeast, as well as Hocus Chimaeras, Lump Mages, Shadows, Lump Shamen, Goodybags, and Pandora's Boxes once again.
Dragon Quest III
Making its debut, it is learned by Mages and Sages at level 27 and targets only a single enemy, somewhat limiting its usefulness compared to Snooze and Dazzle. If a party member is afflicted by the spell, they can be snapped out of it by striking them; this safety feature is limited to DQIII, however. It costs 5 MP to cast (6 MP in the HD-2D Remake), and is used by Lump mages, Lump shamen, Goodybags, Leger-de-men, Hocus chimaeras, and Baramos in battle, as well as Shadows, Great trolls, Pandora's boxes, the Boss troll, and Grand Dragon in the HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest IV
Fuddle is learned by Borya at level 30, and has the same range as before, though the spell is more useful than in III however, as only a handful of enemies have an immunity--even into the final areas and bonus dungeon. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and is used by Pocus poppets, Fuddlesticks, Damselflies, and Axolotls in battle.
Dragon Quest V
Fuddle becomes much more useful in V, targeting a group of enemies and setting the standard for future titles until X. Because it is learned by the Slime recruit at level 22, it is very easy for even casual players to acquire. Other characters and monsters that can learn the spell are Harry, Sancho, Debora, and the Goodybag, Pocus poppet, Jailcat, Grudgerigar, Minidemon, Ghost, and Chimaera monster recruits. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Bags o' laughs, Frighturns, and Air duckts, as well as Pocus Poppets and Goodybags once again.
Dragon Quest VI
Fuddle is learned by Ashlynn at level 18, while other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 4 of the Mage vocation. It once again costs 5 MP to cast, and is also used by Fuddleguanas, Dreadstaffs, and Dogmus, as well as Goodybags once again.
Dragon Quest VII
Fuddle is very scarce in the seventh game, only being learned by reaching rank 6 of the Goodybag vocation and as a hybrid ability of the Mage and Jester vocations in the PS1 original. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Monologs, Purrestidigitators, Terrorhawks, Compos mantises, Birds of terrordise, Pogoin' penguins, and Numpton in battle. In the Reimagined remake, it is learned by Maribel after reaching Proficiency Level 7 of Mini Mayoress. It costs 3 MP to cast for the first time since XI, and is also used by the Whirly girly in the Temple Palace, as well as Hocus Chimaeras once again.
Dragon Quest VIII
Jessica learns this spell after investing 26 points into her Sex Appeal skill tree, as well as Angelo when 7 skill points are invested into his Charisma skill tree. It, along with the newly added Kafuddle, is the most reliable status ailment in the post-game bonus dungeon, where nearly every monster is immune to Dazzle and Kasnooze. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Mimic kings, Unholy bishops, and the Trap box, as well as Lump Mages and Lump Shamen once again. It is also already learned by Red when she joins the party in the 3DS remake.
Dragon Quest IX
Fuddle is learned by Mages at level 19 and Armamentalists at level 20. It once again costs 5 MP to cast with a base accuracy of 50%, and will become more accurate once the caster's magical might surpasses 50. Once the value reaches 999, the spell will be accurate 100% barring enemy resistance. It is also used by Giddy gastropogs and Hootingham-Gore, as well as Goodybags and Terrorhawks once again.
Dragon Quest X
Fuddle is learned by Thieves at level 40 and targets one enemy for the first time since III. It costs 3 MP to cast, and is also used by Cutterflies, Splutterflies, Guaardvarks, Slimeshrooms, Agehaflies, Pantomines, Mossy ghouls, Racoon platypunks, Araniad, Monsterous Marine, as well as Hocus Chimaeras, Goodybags, Monologs, Pogoin' Penguins, Lump Shamen, Terrorhawks, and Birds of Terrordise once again. In the Offline version, it is learned by the Hero in the Thief vocation at the same level and already learned by Distan when he joins the party.
Dragon Quest XI
Acting the same as in X, it is learned by Veronica at level 19. It costs 3 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Brollyminators, Brollygaggers, and the Heedoo voodoo in Baramos's Lair, as well as Hocus Chimaeras, Lump Mages, Lump Shamen, and Leger-de-men once again.
Dragon Warrior Monsters
Going by the name PanicAll, it costs 5 mp and confuses all foes. It is learned by monsters at level 12 while requiring 56 mp and 49 intelligence. They are learned naturally by Chamelgon, DuckKite, JewelBag, MadGoose, and Voodoll.
