Smog is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.
Characteristics
Smogs are gaseous enemies whose bodies consist of a grey cloud of smoke with a demonic red or yellow visage. The noxious clouds are able to disperse their bodies into thin air at will and reform themselves, allowing them to ambush unsuspecting adventurers. They attack by shooting out sharp gusts of wind at enemies.

Etymology
A portmanteau of smoke and fog, the name of this creature is a phenomenon wherein man-made emissions mix with low-level clouds to form a haze that can be toxic and obscures vision.
