- "Faraday" redirects here. For the broader continent formerly localised as Faraday, see Frobisher Region.
Faraday Castle is a fortress in Dragon Quest VII. In times past, it was the last bastion of humanity in an endless war against malevolent machines. Part of the greater Frobisher Region, it lies at the centre of the region's main island.
Etymology
- Faraday Castle is most likely named for nineteenth-century British physicist Michael Faraday, whose work in electrochemistry and electromagnetic properties paved the way for modern applications of electricity. The SI unit of electrical capacitance, the farad (F), is named in honour of Faraday.
Trivia
- Originally named Falrod in the 2000 PlayStation version, Faraday bears more than a passing resemblance to the kingdom of Duloc from the original Shrek film of 2001, though any connections between the two would not be known until the release of the expanded 3D remake of Dragon Quest VII in 2013. Incidentally, the former name of the kingdom calls to mind Lord Farquaad, Duloc's absent-minded tyrant king.*
