Aamon (Ashtaroth for his monster form in Super Light, Of the Stars, Monster Parade, Scan Battlers, Rivals, Walk, Tact, and Keshikeshi) is a major character in Dragon Quest IV, and is a powerful mage-like monster and subordinate of Psaro the Manslayer. In truth, he is a treacherous schemer who is planning to take over the world for himself once his master is gone.
Appearance
Aamon in his normal form resembles a Vis mager from Psaro's own army. He can also take on the form of a human priest. When faced in the Diabolic Hall, he takes on Psaro’s evolving monster form, eventually reaching full form and even a color change.
Personality
Aamon proves to be a backstabber, using Psaro's faith in monsterkind to avoid suspicion and trigger the events that would lead to the final battle of IV. His original hope was that Psaro and the Hero's party would destroy each other in their battle, enabling him to ascend to Psaro's position as Master of Monsterkind. He puts a great deal of effort into this plan, somehow surviving his first run-in with the Hero and later perfecting the Secret of Evolution in the event that something went awry, if not to also give him the power to crush the opposition.

Biography
Though he appears to be a mere lackey, he actually sets in motion much of the endgame. By having Rose killed by the humans, he causes Psaro to fly into a rage and take the throne as the Master of Monsterkind. His dialogue suggests that he intends to eventually take that role as his own, and indeed, in Chapter 6 of the PlayStation, Nintendo DS, and Mobile remakes, he has used the Secret of Evolution on himself and achieved his goal. However, after reviving Rose, Psaro and the Chosen are able to defeat Aamon and restore the world to its rightful state of affairs.
Aamon is first battled at the barrier tower in Nadiria. He is flanked by three drooling ghouls.
In the remakes, Aamon resurfaces in Chapter 6 as the true final boss, having survived his run-in with the hero at Nadiria to assume control of Diabolic Hall. Much like Psaro the Manslayer, he has several forms:

Dragon Quest Rivals Aces
Aamon first appeared in his humanoid form in the 7th card pack, "Strange Tale of Light and Darkness" as a super rare card exclusive for Demon Swordsmen. His transformed form also appeared once the game's name changed to Rivals Ace in the 2nd card pack, "And Thus Into Legend..." under the title, "Ultimate Evil Priest".
Dragon Quest Tact
Aamon appeared as a boss during the limited Dragon Quest IV event. He can be faced in the event story Chapter 4, Episode 4: The Fourth Barrier, as well as in the Den on Aamon on the Road to Psaro's Peak. Aamon begins the battle protected by a wall of light for 3 turns and is guarded by a pair of Drooling ghouls. He can cast Kaswoosh and Kazam and can use Head-Butt Charge and will call upon more drooling ghouls to aid him if he is threatened.
He also appears in the limited True Dragon Quest IV event where he can be faced in the event story Chapter 5, Episode 4: Fruits of Research as well as in his own Boss Battle, while his ultimate form, known as [Ashtaroth, is challenged in Chapter 5, Episode 5: Beyond Evolution. His Ashtaroth form is an S-rank member of the Demon family, appearing on his own banner alongside Abullddon.
Dragon Quest Walk
Aamon appeared in the game as a boss in Chapter 3 of the Dragon Quest IV collaboration event held from November to December 2019, as well as a special mega version that can be challenged by multiple players.

- Though not mentioned in Dragon Quest V, it's implied that Nimzo is a follower of his who mastered the Secret of Evolution before being sealed away in Nadiria.
- Aamon would later be similar to Jair from Dragon Quest X. Both pose as a trusted subordinate to their respective masters (Psaro and Valeria), both manipulate them by causing a tragedy (Killing Rose and destroying an orphanage that Valeria helps out at), and both turn into a monster to kill the Hero for interfering in their plans. (Hero and Hero)
- The main difference is that Jair is killed before he can push Valeria over the edge while Aamon succeeds until IV's postgame in the remakes.
- In the Mobile version of IV an interesting oversight occurs while using the Party Chat in the Diabolic Hall, in which all members of the party, including Psaro, refers to Aamon using the name, Ashtaroth, instead of the name used for Aamon in all other instances.
- Aamon’s first form bares a resemblance to Hoi, a character appearing in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon.
