A dragon scale is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series that usually gives some defense bonuses. First introduced in Dragon Quest, it has been a staple in many games.

Dragon Quest
Legend has it that the Dragon's Scale fell from a dragons body a long, long time ago. A light green fossil that fits in the palm of your hand, it has mysterious powers and slightly increases your defense by 2 and it costs 20 G. It can be found in all item shops in Dragon Quest. Due to text restrictions, it was named "D-Scale" in the Gameboy Color remake of Dragon Quest. In the mobile remake, it increases defense by 5 instead.
Dragon Quest VIII
Dragon scale returns as an accessory with a defense bonus of +5. It can be worn by everyone but offers no special properties. It cannot be bought and sells for 240 G.

The dragon scale can be dropped rarely by Drakularges and Noble gasbagons. They give +17 Attack, +17 Agility and +10 Max HP.

Dragon Quest Builders
The dragon scale gives +5 defense. It is found in the first three chapters. The ones in chapters 1 & 3 are guarded by a Green dragon while the one in chapter 2 is guarded by a Blue dragon.

Dragon scales are ingredients for certain recipes. They are dropped by the Green dragon, Blue dragon, Tyrantosaurus, Axesaurus and Hacksaurus.
