Gillian is a character featured in the Aquarium Pack DLC of Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Appearance
Gillian looks just like Barbella, with long pink hair and blue eyes. She wears a leather helmet with horns and spiked bracelets. She wears a studded brown bandeau and black pants. She bears several x-shaped scars on her torso.
Personality
Gillian is a fishing enthusiast whom adores aquariums. She generally acts very tough, though shows care for Finn when she believes he has perished during a fishing accident. As a child, she is noted to have rejected the Children of Hargon's teachings and lived in an area overseen by Belial.
Biography
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Gillian is initially discovered by the Builder and Malroth after Captain Brownbeard discovers Angler's Isle sometime after they first chart their course to Khrumbul-Dun and receive a letter about the island. She is found fishing at the seaside and expressing upset over her fishing cage having holes in it. After the fishing cage is fixed by the Builder, Gillian decides to give them a fishing rod and teaches them how to use it. Additionally, she teaches them how to release fish into the correct bodies of water and directs them to read through the notes found by her bed.
After teaching the Builder how to fish, she notices a strange color in the water. Thinking its a rare fish, she demands the Builder go catch it. Upon retrieving what Gillian spotted though, it is revealed that the "rare fish" is actually the mask worn by Finn. Believing her friend has died, she requests the Builder and Malroth to retrieve his body under the assumption that the discovery of his mask means his body isn't far away.
Upon finding Finn trapped underwater in a pocket of air, returning his mask, and bringing him to the surface, Gillian thanks the Builder and Malroth for finding him. Though, she takes an outwardly tough approach to not appear soft. Afterward, Finn teaches the Builder how to make aquariums so one can be made for her. After the completion of the aquarium, Finn and Gillian express a willingness to join the Builder on the Isle of Awakening and thusly can be brought to it through using the Resident's Register.
Abilities
Gillian is able to wield swords and fight monsters, much like most Toughie characters in the game. She does not bear any unique variation in her moveset.
Trivia
- After being brought to the Isle of Awakening, Gillian mentions viewing the "Portrait of a Lady" item and is agitated about being mistaken for the subject of the painting. She explains that the painting is actually of her great-great-great-great-grandmother, in her words. This distant relative may be Barbella, though this remains unconfirmed.
- Additionally, after being recruited to the Isle of Awakening, Gillian expresses a fascination with the traps the Builder had made with Anessa in Moonbrooke. She seems to reminisce about traps for a moment and mentions their familiarity, further hinting at a relation to Barbella.
